NEW DELHI: Expecting a rise in the power demand in the coming summer season, Lt governor Najeeb Jung today reviewed the power situation in Delhi and directed the Power Department officials to chalk out a proper summer action plan.

"Power demand in Delhi is expected to rise upto 6,000 mega watts during the summer and Delhi discoms at present has a capacity close to 5,800 mega watts," said a senior official.

This was revealed at a high level meeting chaired by the Lt Governor with the Chief Secretary S K Srivastava, Power Secretary Puneet Goyal and other Power Department officials of Delhi government today. CEOs of three power discoms were also present in the meeting, sources said.

LG reviewed the power scenario of Delhi and even the financial positions were discussed.

The peak power demand during the last season was 5,600 mega watts.

Supreme Court had recently orderd power major NTPC not to cut supplies to the Anil Ambani group's distribution arms, which have defaulted on payments saying low tariffs had impoverished them, till March 26.

However citizens in North and east Delhi and several unauthorised colonies are already facing load shedding.

On the other hand Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) are holding meetings with the power discoms to discuss the situation and find out ways to arrange for funds to be paid to NTPC, sources said.

Yesterday, ADAG Chairman Anil Ambani had met Lt Governor and is understood to have discussed the CAG audit of two power distribution companies of Reliance Infra ordered by previous AAP government and other issues related to electricity supply.
