Naidu ropes NTR's family to counter Chiranjeevi impact

Opposition TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is roping in late N T Rama Rao's family members to strengthen the party.

HYDERABAD: Seeking to counter the impact of actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi in Andhra Pradesh, the main Opposition TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is roping in late N T Rama Rao's family members to strengthen the party.

Naidu, son-in-law of NTR, on Sunday hosted a lunch for his brothers-in-law Hari Krishna, Balakrishna and two sons of Hari Krishna-- junior N T Rama Rao and Kalyan Ram -- all popular actors.

Hari Krishna is a TDP Rajya Sabha member, while Balakrishna's daughter is married to Naidu's son.

Though, there was no official word on what transpired at the lunchon meeting, sources said the NTR family scions have pledged their support to strengthen the party.

The NTR family members are likely to participate in party programmes and a public meeting at Guntur soon, the sources said.

The intervention of Balakrishna, Hari Krishna and his sons is expected to keep up the morale of the TDP, that is lately facing desertions to Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam.
