Nagaur district administration to issue booklet about woman laws

JAIPUR: Aiming to make awareness efforts about women's rights more effective, Nagaur district administration will issue a specially prepared booklet containing provisions and laws about women in simple language in all the educational institutions in the district.

The initiative was taken by Nagaur collector Dr Veena Pradhan, who floated the idea and got the booklet titled 'Mera Sambal' prepared within a week in collaboration with police department.

"It is a 20-page booklet having precise details in very simple language about laws and provisions for women and girls. This will help them getting all information related to their rights and safety and enhance their confidence," Dr Pradhan told PTI.

Important legal provisions and information incorporated in the booklet will enable them to take required step or action in case of any untoward incident.

Be it eve teasing, unwanted touch, harassment of any kind, lewd comment or obscene or objectionable SMS, rape attempt, demand of dowry, attack or any crime against them, all details with relevant section and provision of punishment have been included in the booklet, she said.

"There are activities which fall under the definition of crime but unfortunately, because of unawareness, victims have to ignore them, particularly in rural areas.

"They need to be alerted about crime related with changing technology that includes misuse of mobile or internet in the era of transition and this book effectively deals with such issues," she said.

The collector said the booklet would make the girls confident.

"We target to distribute approximately 60,000 to one lakh copies in all the schools, colleges and other institutions across the district and I have directed my team to ensure that the booklet reaches every girl and woman in the district," she said.
