GUWAHATI: Ruling Naga People's Front (NPF) has decided to sever ties with BJP. NPF is an old ally of BJP and also is a part of ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland.

Relationship between two parties became bitter when a faction of NPF alleged BJP of inciting rebellion in NPF.

In a resolution adopted at the emergency meeting of the Central Executive Council, Central Office Bearers, Division Presidents and frontal organisation office bearers of the NPF at Kohima resolved that the undue haste and favour has been shown by the Governor of Nagaland towards the dissident legislators.

NPF questions the neutrality and the apolitical stand of the Governor, and is of the opinion that the Governor has misused, abused and tarnished Raj Bhawan to favour rebellion within the NPF to enhance the political fortunes of the BJP in Nagaland.

"NPF resolved to approach the President of India to recall the Governor of Nagaland immediately so that the sanctity of the gubernatorial Office in the State is maintained in future," a NPF statement stated.

NPF lamented that the BJP has decided to foment instability in the state for its own benefits and resolved to sever ties with the national party, with which it has been associated with since 1977.

NPF added, "Alarmed that the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India is being circumvented by unethical elements with active support of political powers that be in the country to enhance their political fortunes, the NPF resolves to take all legal recourse to ensure that the aims and objectives of anti-defection laws as enshrined in the 91st amendment of the Constitution are upheld."

NPF also resolves to appeal to the Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly to rise above political considerations and continue to be the very embodiment of propriety and impartiality.
