Nagaland restricts unauthorized officials from speaking to media

Guwahati: Nagaland government restricted unauthorized officials from speaking to media. The government has also asked the officials to refrain from venting grievances in social media.

Chief secretary Temjen Toy stated, “A lot of confusion is being created in the minds of the people through media reports based on interviews and statements given by Government functionaries who are not authorised to speak on behalf of the Departments. All AHoDs and HoDs may kindly note that no officer other than the concerned AfloD/HoD are authorised to speak to the media on issues pertaining to functioning matters of the respective departments. Any unauthorised government functionary in the Government found making statements to any Media or Press will face disciplinary action”.

Toy in another order stated, “In continuation of this office Advisory of even number dated 15° April, 2020 regarding statements made to the media by government functionaries, all Government servants may be advised that if any of them have any grievances, it should be brought to the notice of their controlling officers who in turn will further take up such matters with the appropriate authorities”


He added, “It is unfortunate that Government servants are beginning to resort to the use of social media platforms to either vent their views or broadcast their grievances. Such actions only point to the fact that the posts are made with intents other than actually resolving the concerned issues. All AHoDs and HoDs may ensure that this Advisory reaches every Government functionary under their Departments”.
