NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo, while pointing out these issues, expressed astonishment at the manner in which the NDPP-BJP alliance rushed ahead with the appointment of advisers to different government departments soon after the pre-poll partners won the mandate of the people at the recently-concluded Assembly election.
He said the coalition government went ahead in giving executive powers to the 24 newly elected alliance members as advisors, in clear violation of the constitutional principles of separation of powers between the legislature, judiciary and executive.
Theunuo also expressed surprise to note that the ruling coalition had appointed Mhathung Yanthan as the pro-tem speaker to administer oath of office and affirmation to the newly-elected members of the 14th NLA.
He pointed out that this was also in contravention to the laid down norms since Yanthan took oath as the pro-tem speaker on March 10 after he had already been given the executive powers as an adviser along with 23 other MLAs elect of NDPP-BJP government on March 9.
