GUWAHATI: Nagaland government has recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the lynching of rape accused in Dimapur recently.

On March thousands of people broke jail and lynched Syed Farid Khan.Nagaland cabinet has decided to recommend CBI probe to Centre.

President of ruling Naga Peoples Front (NPF) Dr.Shürhozelie Liezietsu told ET, “I am told that state government has recommend CBI probe into the Dimapur incident.“

Following the incident curfew was imposed in the town and SMS and MMS services were blocked and internet was blacked out in Nagaland.

Nagaland Police had set up a Special Investigation Team to look into the case and arrested as many as 50 persons for their involvement in the mob violence.

Khan who hails from Karimganj in Assam was running a business in Dimapur had been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in Dimapur on February 24.

He was remanded in judi cial custody in the Dima pur central jail.

He was then stripped naked, beaten, pelted with stones, and taken towards the centre of Dimapur town, seven kilometres away. Khan succumbed to his injuries. The mob then dragged his body to a clock tower and displayed it.
