Nagaland encroaching land in Assam
The border area development minister Gautam Roy stated that incitement by Naga rebels for the creation of 'Greater Nagalim' might be one of the reasons for encroachment of Assam’s land by the Nagaland.
In a written reply to the question of AGP legislator Abdul Aziz, the minister said that that Nagaland has encroached 66,241 hectares of Assam's land. Nagaland government is refusing to accept the boundaries demarcated in 1962.
He added that close vigilance is maintained to stop further encroachment. Border outposts (BOP) have been set up and border magistrates are employed in border areas.
He informed that Assam government has been appealing to the Centre to put pressure on Nagaland to return the encroached land to Assam.
