KOLKATA: Keeping in mind BJP's rapid electoral success, Bengal CPM has made its May 22 Nabanna agitation a prestige issue and is making desperate bid to make it a successful political event.

Party’s state secretary and polit bureau member Surjya Kanta Mishra has virtually issued a whip from a public meeting here asking all party members ranging from polit bureau to local committees to be on the street during the agitation and get themselves ready to face any unknown situations.

“We have to be prepare ourselves to face any situation on May 22 and if necessary, we may have to be on the streets for that day. All of us would have to be on the streets during the Nabanna agitation on May 22,” Mishra was heard telling a CPM gathering in the city which was organised as a preparation to their Nabanna agitation.

CPM insiders made it clear that their leadership did not renew memberships of about 65,000 party card holders as they remained inactive in the past few years by not attending party-sponsored movements and agitation.

Mishra, while addressing the gathering, also made it clear that the state leadership might take stern action against those members who would not involve themselves actively during May 22 agitation. Before the agitation, the CPM is organising al most everyday, several preparatory meetings across the state to make their protest march the most successful political event.
