Nabam Tuki to be next Arunachal Chief Minister

The swearing-in of Tuki as the new chief minister is likely to take place later in the day, according to Raj Bhavan sources.

ITANAGAR: Dissident leader Nabam Tuki was today chosen as the new Congress Legislature Party leader in Arunachal Pradesh, signalling the end of the weeks-long political drama that culminated in the resignation of Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin.

The decision to choose Tuki was taken by the Congress high command.

The swearing-in of Tuki, who led the revolt against Gamlin's leadership for his alleged 'authoritarian rule', as the new chief minister is likely to take place later in the day, according to Raj Bhavan sources.

Yesterday, Gamlin had in his resignation letter recommended the names of Power (Electrical) Minister Setong Sena and Finance Minister Kalikho Pul for the high post, according to official sources.

Gamlin was sworn in as chief minister on May five after the death of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu in a helicopter crash on April 30 this year.

Besides the Congress, the Trinamool Congress has 5 members, NCP-5, People's Party of Arunachal 4, the BJP-3 besides a lone Independent in the 60-member Assembly.
