N-renaissance's the buzzword

Nuclear renaissance was the theme of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Mumbai.

MUMBAI: Nuclear renaissance was the theme of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Mumbai. He first talked about it at Tarapur while dedicating two indigenous reactors to the nation, and reiterated it later at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) while appealing to young scientists to use their knowledge and creativity to help India’s integration into the global nuclear environment.

“A nuclear renaissance is taking place the world over and exciting opportunities await you. Your skills, knowledge and creativity will be at a high premium as the industry revives,” Mr Singh said while addressing the 50th graduation ceremony at the BARC training school in Mumbai.

“You are stepping into an India of exciting opportunities and limitless possibilities. In facing this brave new world, show the courage of your convictions, demonstrate your self-confidence, and be not afraid to set out on new paths. For, that is how knowledge has been acquired and assimilated,” he told the gathering of young graduates.

“I wish to make one appeal. Be bold, be brave, be innovative, be curious and be open to new ideas, new ways of thinking and new ways of doing things. This is the scientific method,” he added.

He said further that the BARC training school had evolved into a role model recognised internationally as a school of par excellence. India is ready for a new revolution in education, giving opportunities to the country’s youth at all levels of the pyramid of knowledge and training, the prime minister stressed.
