KOLKATA: Charging the CPI-M and other Left parties with creating controversy over the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, West Bengal Congress Committee general secretary Manas Bhuniya on Wednesday said their stand would only encourage China and Pakistan who were not happy with the agreement.
"The CPI-M and other Left parties are creating controversy over the nuke deal which is not in the interest of the country. Their stand will only encourage China and Pakistan," Bhuniya, also the leader of Congress Legislature Party, told reporters here.
Bhuniya said when talks were on between the government and the Left parties on the nuclear deal, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had issued a warning to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at a public meeting at Asamsol on Tuesday on the nuke deal.
CPI-M and other Left parties were opposing the deal and trying to create a crisis for the government only due to their blind anti-Americanism, he said.
