N-deal flagged off: Govt okays 123 agreement

The government will make a formal announcement in this regard on the first day of Monsoon Session of Parliament.


NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh formally approved the text of the Indo-US nuclear agreement this morning. The government will make a formal announcement in this regard on the first day of Monsoon Session of Parliament. The top brass in the government will hold formal talks with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is also the chairman of the NDA before making a statement in Lok Sabha.

The scheduled meeting with Vajpayee is aimed at blunting NDA's possible opposition to nuclear deal struck with Bush administration. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, told mediapersons that United National Progressive Alliance (UPA) will also hold talks with other oppposition parties including the Left allies.

Mukherjee said, "The text of the 123 agreement cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs has taken care of India's concern aired with US."
