My Guru Rashtra comment was tweaked to Gau Rashtra, says Assam BJP chief

GUWAHATI: Assam state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said he had stated that by 2025 India will be Guru Rashtra (super power) but it was wrongly interpreted as Gau Rashtra (cow nation).

Dass clarified that he meant India was regaining its old position and fast emerging as a knowledge hub. "Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi India is emerging as super power," he said.

He added, "Earlier Prime minister of India used to write letters to other heads of nations that he was willing to visit the country, while now heads of other states write letters to Indian Prime minister requesting him to visit their country."


Das also talked about a letter from United Nations Office of High Commissioner for human rights that has pointed out discrimination against Muslim minorities in Assam in the ongoing updation of national register of citizens (NRC).

He said, "We should not be worried by it. We all want a foolproof national register of citizens, and we will have it."
