MUZAFFARNAGAR: State DGP (Prosecution) Vijay Kumar visited the district and held a meeting with the officials of the special investigation cell probing the about 200 cases registered in connection with the last month's riots in the district that left 49 people dead.

Several senior officials of the special investigation cell (SIC), including additional SPs Manoj Jha and Pramod Sanger, SP (Crime) Kavita Saxena and senior prosecuting officer SK Gupta, participated in the meeting yesterday.

The SIC officials have recorded the statements of the victims and collected important evidence in connection with the cases, Kumar said after the meeting.

The SIC has been constituted by the UP government to investigate the riot cases.

Meanwhile, the state government yesterday formed 16 government councils for the riot-related cases in the four affected districts of Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Meerut and Baghpat in western Uttar Pradesh, said SK Gupta.
