MUZAFFARNAGAR: A local court today committed to sessions court a case relating to the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, in which nine persons, including local BJP leader Virender Singh, were chargesheeted for setting afire a car.

The Special Investigation Team had filed chargesheet against nine accused including Virender Singh, society chairman Shayampal, Jaiprakash Shastri, Omvir and others under relevant sections of the IPC for rioting and attempt to murder.

The case relates to the incident which took place on August 31, 2013, when a car belonging to persons from different community, was set on fire after they passed the Maha Panchayat at Nagla Madore area of the district.

However, the occupants were rescued by the police.
