Muzaffarnagar riots: Bail plea of gangrape accused rejected
MUZAFFARNAGAR: A local court has rejected the bail plea of an accused in a riots-related gangrape case.

District Sessions judge, Vijay Laxmi rejected the plea of accused Vedpal yesterday, saying there was no case of bail.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing riot cases, have identified six people, including the accused Vedpal for gangraping a riot victim at Phugana village in the district during the communal violence September last.

Later, Vedpal was arrested and sent to jail in the case. The victim had earlier recorded her statement before the magistrate, where she had accused that she was gangraped by six persons including Vedpal.

The remaining five accused in the case are said to be absconding, police said.

Around 60 people died and thousands were displaced from their homes in last year's communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and neighbouring villages of western Uttar Pradesh.
