KOLKATA: With no solution reached, the row over the half bust statue of Mujibar Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh continues in West Bengal.

The fringe Muslim groups have now put up an “open letter” on social networking sites stating that the “family members of Bangabandhu” can install a statue wherever they want, but, any violation of Islamic rules would not be tolerated.

The statue was installed by the Bangaldeshi government in century old Baker Government hostel in central Kolkata in 2011.

The fringe groups, led by the All Bengal Minority Youth Federation (ABMYF) are likely to meet CM Mamata Banerjee next week. “We are in touch with the chief minister’s office and we have sought an appointment. We might meet the chief minister next week and try to present our demand before her for the final time. The deadline given to the government would also end next week,” said ABMYF’s general secretary Mohammad Quamruzzaman.

Siddiquallah Chowdhury, a minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet said he was waiting for the report of his organisations’s district committee.
