Musharraf arrives for farewell military parade
Pakistan's President Pervez took the salute Wednesday at a farewell parade where he will hand over the baton of army chief, ending eight years of military rule.
Uniformed buglers announced his arrival at a stadium at army headquarters, where Pakistan's political and military elite were gathered to watch the parade and march-past.
During the ceremony Musharraf was due to hand over command of the military to his designated successor, General Ashfaq Kiyani, a day before he swears a new oath of office as a civilian president.
Musharraf was dressed in full ceremonial uniform, a dark green sash over a row of heavy medals pinned to his chest, his officer's baton under his arm.
An officer shouted the commands to present arms before the combined bands struck up the national anthem.
Musharraf then began to inspect the troops accompanied by a guard of honour and to the tune of Auld Lang Syne.
A recitation from the Koran followed as Musharraf and Kiyani stood side by side.
