Kolkata: A district court in West Bengal's Murshidabad on Monday convicted 13 persons in the murder of father and son duo Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das during communal violence in Murshidabad district in April this year, following protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

The Jangipur district court judge will pronounce the sentence for these 13 convicted persons on Tuesday. The pronouncement of the sentence comes nine months after the gruesome murder of the father-son duo on April 12.

The accused have been convicted under Sections 103(2), 310(2), 331(5), 191(3), 115(2), 126(2), 332(a), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A Special investigation team (SIT) was formed after the murders and it had arrested the 13 currently convicted persons one after another.

Earlier this year, the SIT had submitted a 900-page charge sheet in the matter.
