Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon clears some encroachments

GURGAON: The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon conducted an anti-encroachment drive this week in Sadar Bazar, Badshahpur Market and Roshanpura Ramlila Grounds, among other areas, warning the guilty that encroachment on public land will not be tolerated.

MCG teams went to Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk and the New Railway Road, along with other spots, and cleared flower vendors, coconut vendors and other encroachers, besides signboards, from these spots.

MCG commissioner V Uma Shankar said that the vendors on the city's main roads, footpaths and markets were violating rules.

"The MCG has formed four teams, led by officials Ashish Sherawat and Arundeep Bharadwaj. The traffic jams caused by encroachment on the roads caused problems for daily drivers, pedestrians and also made the roads prone to accidents," he said.

Sadar Bazar is an old market and customer traffic here is much higher than in other areas, the commissioner said. "The market has been facing some problems due to this as the areas around the shops became quite tight, making it troublesome for customers and negatively impacted business for the shopkeepers," he said.

He said customers like to shop in open spaces and advised vendors not to intrude in keeping with public interest.

The anti-encroachment teams are headed by district town planner Sanjeev Maan of the MCG. The drive will be conducted on a daily basis and will continue for another six months as per the orders of the municipal commissioner.
