Mumbai still limping, many Mumbaikars not reached home yet
Mumbai’s reputation as a financial city was severely hit, as 24 hours after it rained the city was still struggling to get to its feet.
Traffic to many parts of the city was still not restored,to what was the highest downpour the city has received in the last 12 years according to the Weather Bureau.
While Western Railway services resumed in the night itself Central Services could bestarted only in the morning. Services between Titwala To kasara has still not been able to resume. The first Harbour train between CST To Panvel left only after 9am on Wednesday.
While the Mumbai Traffic police had claimed that the roads are clear for traffic, it was far from the truth as traffic continued to move very slowly as Tuesday’s deluge had meant that many had parked/deserted their cars on roads, bridges and had gone home. This meant that traffic moved very slowly on Wednesday morning.
In fact till 10 am many who had gone to work on Tuesday had not been able to return home.
There were many who shared the same tale, in fact the Navy was seen distributing food packets at a few places in Mumbai, Ganesh mandals too pitched in by providing snacks to those who have been stranded.
Many were desperate to go home as the Weather bureau had predicted more rains again on Wednesday afternoon.
The Weather Bureau has already urged people not to leave their homes onWedneday unless it was absolutely necessary, the same warning was issued by the Maharashtra government onTuesday asking people to stay at homes. The warning need not have been given as a sizeable section of Mumbai’s population has not been able to return homes yet.
