Police sources said a close watch was being kept on railway and metro stations, airport, port, hotels and shopping malls. Security was heightened in all government offices and installations.
Earlier, the Kolkata Police warned there was a possibility of terrorists seeking sanctuary in the metropolis and directed landlords against letting out their premises without verifying the antecedents of tenants.
"There is every likelihood of breach of peace and tranquility and there is grave danger to human life and safety and injury to public property on that account," an official release said.
"Therefore, it is felt necessary some checks on landlords and tenants so that terrorists, anti-social elements in the guise of tenants may not cause riots or damage to public property," it added.
