Mumbai police receive NBW against Raj Thackeray

Non-bailable warrant against MNS chief issued by Jamshedpur court.

MUMBAI: Mumbai police on Monday received a non-bailable warrant issued by a Jamshedpur court against MNS chief Raj Thackeray for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Biharis and said it will be executed this week. "The non-bailable warrant issued by a court in Jamshedpur was received by us today but we will execute it during the course of this week," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Milind Bharambe said.

The warrant against Thackeray for allegedly making derogatory remarks against members of the Bihari community, was brought here by the Jamshedpur police and will be served on the MNS leader later in the week as Thackeray is presently out of the city, he said.

The non-bailable warrant was issued by the court of first class judicial magistrate A K Tiwary on September 30 directing the MNS leader to be present before him on November 17.

The court directive came on a petition filed against Thackeray by Hammed Raza Khan, a lawyer, for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a section of society. "Raj Thackeray is on a tour of the Konkan region and Western Maharashtra till November 25. It will be the decision of the home department whether to arrest him," Atul Sarpotdar, General Secretary of the MNS, said.

In a fresh attack on north-Indians, the MNS activists on Sunday attacked centres conducting railway recruitment examination in suburban Mumbai to protest against the "inadequate representation" to locals and chased away candidates from north India.

More than 30 MNS activists were arrested from Dombivali, Thane, Andheri and Nala Sopara for disrupting the exam, tearing test papers and pelting stones on candidates, police said. "What is wrong if they are protesting against the "inadequate representation" to locals in the exam," MNS leader Shishir Shinde had said.

In November 2003, supporters of Raj Thackeray, who was then with the Shiv Sena, disrupted a Railway Board exam in Kalyan by preventing candidates from other states, mainly north Indians, from appearing the exam.
