Heavy rains on Monday lashed Mumbai and some other parts of Maharashtra, leaving two persons dead.

MUMBAI: Heavy rains on Monday lashed Mumbai and some other parts of Maharashtra, leaving two persons dead and paralysing normal life, officials said.

One person died and three others were injured in a landslide caused by heavy downpour near Haji Ali in central Mumbai, according to the Disaster Management Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The landslide took place near Hill View building adjoining Heera Panna shopping centre at 12.30 pm, injuring four persons. They were rushed to Nair Hospital where one of them was declared dead on arrival, civic officials said.

In another incident, three persons, including two women, were injured when a tree collapsed on an autorickshaw in suburban Mulund, they said.

A man was washed away in flood waters in Khed town of Konkan region which has been receiving incessant rains. The deceased was identified as Vishwas Shankar Pawar, the sources said.

Incidents of house and wall collapse were reported from several parts of the metropolis but no one was injured.

Several hutments near Mithi river were evacuated after the water level rose to 4.2 metre. 33 people were shifted out of a resort in Palghar by firefighters.

Residents were moved out of a 'chawl' (multi-storeyed one room tenements) in Marol after their houses developed cracks due to the incessant showers which are lashing the financial capital and adjoining areas for the last three days, they said.
