Parts of central India are also expected to receive some monsoon showers this week, further boosting its already-healthy monsoon that currently has a surplus of 28% since the monsoon season started on June 1.
Mumbai and the western coast should brace for heavy showers in the coming days, the national forecaster said on Wednesday, signalling an end to a long patch humid weather and scanty rain.

Rainfall in Mumbai and suburban areas has been 17% below normal so far although the monsoon reached the city on June 14.

Between July 3 and 4, heavy rainfall totally over 20 cm is likely over Mumbai and its surrounding areas on the coast, along with Goa, the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Parts of central India are also expected to receive some monsoon showers this week, further boosting its already-healthy monsoon that currently has a surplus of 28% since the monsoon season started on June 1.

Two cyclonic circulations, one over south Gujarat while the other over east Uttar Pradesh are the cause for this spell of heavy rainfall. "Under its influence, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely along West coast, Gujarat State and interior Maharashtra during next 5 days," said IMD's statement.

In central India, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chattisgarh, and parts of eastern UP are expected to see increasingly heavy rainfall as the week progresses.
