Mumbai blasts: BJP responds to Digvijay Singh by attacking Sonia Gandhi
BJP targeted Sonia Gandhi, saying her party general secretary's comments against the RSS were made at her behest.
The BJP's retaliation came in the wake of Singh's comments that RSS was running bomb-making factory and that the role of Hindu outfits should be probed. The Opposition party accused Singh of trying to communalise the fight against terror. The Congress general secretary has been training his guns at the Sangh over the past two days.
"There can not be a comment lower and more irresponsible than saying that the Sangh (RSS) is a factory for making bombs. It is the charge of the BJP that Digvijay Singh is intentionally trying to communalise the fight against terror in the country for petty political games," BJP's chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters.
Bringing the party leadership in the line of fire, Prasad said "the biggest question is why is Digvijaya Singh speaking... He has been appointed by Sonia Gandhi, he is his master's voice."
Prasad said such statements targeting the Sangh would weaken the fight against terror and demanded that the entire country speak in one voice on terror. "These repeated comments of Digvijaya Singh must be gladdening the hearts of terrorists and their patrons. We condemn this," he said.
Alleging that Singh had even resorted to slapping a BJP worker, he said, "he is now taking on new activities like slapping people. A new etiquette is being formed, he is slapping people, should he be welcomed?"
