No. 2 in GDP Growth, beats Shanghai

Mumbai scores well on many variables, especially in those measuring growth. Its real GDP grew at the 2nd highest rate, ahead of even Beijing and Shanghai.

No. 2 in Construction, ahead of Istanbul

Mumbai has the 2nd highest construction activity after Toronto. Investment in public transport is also aiding its economy, with the city ranking 12th in mass transit coverage, ahead of London & Tokyo.

It also attracts considerable FDI, with the 10th highest number of greenfi eld projects and the 15th highest amount of capital investment. In economic clout, the city is ranked in the median position (14).

Cheapest to Live

Low costs of living can help the city attract and retain human capital. Mumbai ranks 1st in the consumer price index—the average change in the prices paid by consumers for goods and services—and has the 2nd lowest cost of rent. The city also has 3rd lowest cost of Internet services.
