The BJP National Executive emphasised that the party should take message of nationalism and the achievements of the Narendra Modi dispensation to the masses but was evasive on issues including the Rafale deal, the rise in petrol and diesel prices, state of the economy, and unemployment.

BJP’s political resolution focused on painting a rosy picture about the Modi government’s work for the poor and the rural people. The party did away with practice of passing an economic resolution and instead passed a resolution on the work done for farmer welfare. A statement was made by party chief Amit Shah on the National Register of Citizens. The party also emphasised that the Citizenship Bill pending in Parliament should be passed soon.

HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said the petro prices today were the same as in 2013 (when UPA was in power) and the government is following the right policy.

The Rafale fighter jet deal (it was not mentioned by name, claim BJP leaders) and the protest from upper castes to the SC/ST Act amendments were dismissed summarily as false propaganda by the opposition. State of the economy- demonetisation and the issue of employment-were not discussed.

Home minister Rajnath Singh moved the political resolution which was seconded by Himachal PradeshCM Jairam Thakur and BJP VP Avinash Rai Khanna. The political resolution eulogised the contribution of PM Modi.
