Multiple FIRs filed, BJP demands immediate arrest of TMC MP Mahua Moitra

Controversy erupted over Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra's Goddess Kali comments with the BJP demanding her immediate arrest and police action within ten days. Dozens of FIRs have been filed by BJP supporters in various police stations across Bengal, including at Rabindra Sarovar, Bowbazar and Purulia's Raghunathpur.

The BJP, led by leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, and the BJP Mohila Morcha, organised protests across the state, especially in Kolkata, demanding her arrest. They were accompanied by monks and sadhus.

An unrelenting Moitra tweeted, "Bring it on BJP! Am a Kali worshipper. I am not afraid of anything. Not your ignoramuses. Not your goons. Not your police. And most certainly not your trolls. Truth doesn't need back up forces."


On social media, she said: "Jai Ma Kali! The goddess Bengalis worship is fearless & non-appeasing."

Moitra made the controversial comments about Goddess Maa Kali at a media conclave on Tuesday. "To all you sanghis, lying will NOT make you better Hindus. I NEVER backed any film or poster or mentioned the word smoking. Suggest you visit my Maa Kali in Tarapith to see what food & drink is offered as bhog. Joy Ma Tara," Moitra had tweeted on Tuesday, which had sparked the controversy. Tarapith sadhus claimed that "sura (alcohol) and meat is offered to Maa Kali as 'Bhog' during puja They stated that Moitra should not have commented about Goddess Kali.

Distancing itself from Moitra, the Trinamool Congress leadership called it "deplorable" and claimed that Moitra's opinion is not the party's stand.
