A three-judge bench led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi is hearing a petition filed by activist Harsh Mander demanding the release of those foreigners who have been detained indefinitely in detention centres in the state. He has argued that it was against their right to liberty guaranteed under the Indian Constitution. His lawyer Prashant Bhushan has urged the court to set them free to lead a life of dignity with sureties and other such conditions such as reporting in local police stations.
