Mulayam Singh on secret mission to cross-check winnability of his party's candidates in 2014 polls
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is seeking a confidential report on the winnability of his party's candidates in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections seen as his last chance for making it to the country's top post. Yadav has appointed incharges for various constituencies in the state to get a ground report on the candidate's popularity and weakness.

The team will also check against any factionalism and possible attempts at sabotaging the party's chances in the elections. A report is to be submitted by June 30 and the party supremo would then take a call on replacing any candidate.

SP spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhry confirmed the appointment of incharges, but said the names could not be divulged as the appointments have been made by the top leadership for confidential work. Even the local party units have not been taken into confidence to ensure independent functioning, another SP leader said. The local leaders will be consulted only in the last leg of the secret mission, he said.
