Mulayam reaches out to Amar Singh, rejects resignation

NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh reached out to Amar Singh on Sunday, who recently resigned as the general secretary of the party.

Mulayam Singh has said that the resignation of Amar Singh will not be accepted by the party. "The party will not accept his resignation. I will talk to Amar Singh and resolve the issue," said Mulayam.

This comes a day after Sanjay Dutt, who had joined the Samajwadi Party before the general elections, announced his resignation from the post of party's general secretary in support of Amar Singh. This also fuelled speculation that several big names in the party, including Jaya Prada, Jaya Bachchan and Manoj Tiwari, may also quit, backing Amar Singh.

Reacting to Sanjay Dutt's resignation and statement that he was hurt by the treatment given to Amar Singh, the party chief said that everything would soon be fine.

However, Mulayam Singh's brother Ramgopal had lashed out at Amar Singh saying that the party was not in favour of him staying on after resigning even as the latter returned the favour by saying that "it was a fight between the socialist mindset of 50s who refuse to change and those who want to be in tune with the times."
