SRINAGAR: Minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday met a select group of people on the outskirts of Srinagar as part of the Centre’s outreach. The group demanded that job and land rights be secured for residents of J&K. BJP’s Srinagar unit organised the function at the revenue department in Harwan, around 15 km from Lal Chowk. Around 250 people, including BJP workers, panchayat members and Gujjar and Bakerwal delegations met Naqvi. The visit coincided with a partial shutdown to observe the 30th anniversary of ‘Gawkadal massacre’. The administration had made elaborate security arrangements around the venue and diverted traffic for the duration of Naqvi’s programme.

Naqvi said the outreach reflected his government’s positive approach. “The bug of corruption has damaged paradise on earth…People’s hopes have been smashed for many decades by the ruling class. It will not happen again...”
