Mukherjee wraps up successful UAE visit

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today wrapped up a successful three-day visit to the UAE, during which he discussed the ways to boost bilateral ties in various areas with top leaders of the Gulf state.

DUBAI: External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today wrapped up a successful three-day visit to the UAE, during which he discussed the ways to boost bilateral ties in various areas with top leaders of the Gulf state.

The Indian Minister left for Russia by a special plane this morning.

During his stay in the UAE, Mukherjee interacted with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi who is also the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the UAE Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

While in Dubai, he met Mohammed al Gergawi, the UAE Minister for Cabinet Affairs and visited the Dubai Executive Council where he was briefed on plans by companies in the Emirate to invest in India.

Addressing business leaders in Dubai, Mukherjee projected India as "one of the most attractive investment destinations" in the world and asked entrepreneurs from the Gulf to take advantage of the "exciting new opportunities".

On Monday, during the meeting with his counterpart Sheikh Abdullah, he discussed progress of the UAE-India joint committee, ways to enhance security and military ties and cooperation in addressing the spiralling global food prices.

The UAE has sought a larger role for New Delhi in the Gulf Cooperation Council, maintaining that stability and peace in the region was crucial for both India and the Emirates.
