MPs won't have to be fear electronic media

MPs will now be able to walk through the outer pathway of Parliament without having to fear about being stalked by news-hungry journalists from the electronic media.

NEW DELHI: MPs will now be able to walk through the outer pathway of Parliament without having to fear about being stalked by news-hungry journalists from the electronic media.
The practice of TV reporters seeking "one comment or one byte" from the MPs has been discouraged by the Parliament's security personnel, who have asked camerapersons to remain confined to the media stands earmaked for them.
Sources in Parliament said the order was issued after several MPs complained that they were hounded by journalists and camerapersons, a trend that even led to verbal duels at times.
"Only photographers or camerapersons who do not carry mikes shall be permitted to stand under the porch of (Parliament) building gate number one on both sides of the wooden barricade, leaving the central passage for smooth movement of members and dignitaries," an order issued by the Parliament office said.
Interviews with dignitaries must be conducted only at the media stands earmarked for the purpose (opposite gate numbers four and 12). "However, in exceptional cases (like disabled/ aged member), the crew members may be permitted to go to take reactions on the left and right sides of the building," it said.
The order also asked mediapersons to observe "decorum in consonance with the dignity of Parliament".
