New Delhi: A day after home minister Amit Shah launched 'Tiranga Utsav', many MPs, including central ministers, took part in a bike rally in Delhi on Wednesday. It originated from Red Fort and ended at Vijay Chowk.

The culture ministry said that it had sent personal invites to all MPs, but the opposition boycotted the event. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu flagged off the rally in the run-up to the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative to mark the 75th year of Independence.

"Opposition parties will have their own Tiranga yatra and celebration. We will not accept or participate in events BJP is conducting with a political agenda," said Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. AICC had already announced that party leaders and workers would carry out the party's Tiranga Yatra for a week, ahead of August 15.

Culture minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was not a governmental event but a national event. "It is going to be 75 years of India's freedom. Every Indian will hoist the Tricolour between 13-15 August, and we are holding promotional events, like the one held today. To every Parliamentarian, I personally sent e-mails and made calls to join."
