MPCC irked by DF govt's apathy towards farmers

MPCC has slammed the Congress-led Democratic Front government in the state for its non-serious attitude in the implementation of special package for farmers.

NAGPUR: Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has slammed the Congress-led Democratic Front government in the state for its non-serious attitude in the implementation of special package for farmers.

A fact-finding panel appointed by MPCC chief Prabha Rau has criticised the finance, agriculture and irrigation ministers for not visiting the crisis-ridden villages in the six most-affected districts in Vidarbha.

The report ‘Suicides in Vidarbha and Implementation of Prime Minister’s Package’ submitted to chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh last week said it was unfortunate that these ministers did not bother to understand the plight of farmers in the region.

Nagpur-north MLA and MPCC general secretary Nitin Raut prepared the report. The report said the state government has done very little for the farmers and that with suicides on the rise, the party’s image has taken a beating.
