Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath on Sunday said his party has been conducting an independent survey which will be of help in candidate selection for the year-end Assembly polls in the state. The Congress will also seek the opinion of the local populace as part of the candidate selection process, he added.

"There was a system of giving suggestions or creating pressure. Now, we are carrying out independent surveys. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) is also carrying out a survey at its level," Nath told reporters.

He said sometimes some common or adverse factors come up in different surveys and in such a situation importance is given to the opinion of people of the particular area.

"We are not going to do anything without considering the opinion of local people. Surveys are indicative but, in the end, the local people's opinion matters as they have to fight on the ground," he added.

He also asserted that no ticket distribution process can be completed with consensus as everyone who wants to contest feels he will surely win.

The year-end Assembly polls in MP is between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on one side and the Congress and the citizens of the state on the other side, he claimed.
