MP Assembly: BJP, Congress raise spurious liquor sale issue
BHOPAL: BJP and Congress members today expressed concern over the issue of alleged sale of illegal and spurious liquor in various parts of Madhya Pradesh.

The matter was raised by BJP's Pandhana (Khandwa district) MLA Yogita Naval Singh Borkar through a Call Attention motion in the state Assembly.

However, in his reply, state Commercial Taxes Minister Jayant Mallaiya said that after the probe, it was found that only "duty paid" liquor was being sold, while the MLA had complained of sale of illegal liquor in Pandhana area.

It was also revealed that no case of sale of spurious liquor was found and the civil surgeon (of the concerned area) also confirmed that no casualty was reported in the area because of consumption of spurious liquor, he said.

Mallaiya also informed the House that Excise officials were regularly keeping a watch on the area and taking action against those involved in the sale of such liquor.

Besides Yogita, Congress member Sunderlal Tiwari and others also raised the issue of sale of illegal liquor in their respective areas.

But, Deputy Speaker Rajendra Kumar Singh did not ask the Minister to respond to the matter raised by others as the Call Attention motion was specific to Pandhana area only.
