Mozambican President headed to India on August 4 for five-day visit
NEW DELHI: Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi will arrive here on a five-day visit on August 4 during which the two countries will focus on strengthening bilateral business ties, especially in the hydrocarbon and coal sectors.

The Mozambican President -- who, interestingly, had done a course at IIM-Ahmedabad -- will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Mozambican Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Minerals and Energy, Agriculture, Transportation and Communications and Interior, senior officials as well as a senior business delegation.

Nyusi will call on his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee and also meet Vice-President Hamid Ansari.

He will be holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Nyusi and his wife will also visit Ahmedabad for a day during their visit. The Mozambican President had completed a short duration course at IIM-Ahmedabad in 2003.

Nyusi had earlier visited India in 2011 in his capacity as the Defence Minister of Mozambique.

India is a large trading and investment partner of the southeast African country, with bilateral trade in 2014-15 reaching almost USD 2.4 billion.

Indian investments in Mozambique are presently valued at over USD 7 billion, primarily in the hydrocarbon and coal sectors.

India is also an important destination for Mozambicans for higher education and high quality healthcare facilities.
