More work to start at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium
CPWD has been asked to add new features at DC Stadium.

The request is to construct around 200 manholes and a dedicated underground line at the stadium, said a senior CPWD official.
‘‘ The request has come from TCIL that is in charge of laying cables for security at the venue,’’ said the official . Incidentally, the cabling work — for setting up security cameras and related equipment such as scanners, etc — has been going on after construction of the main stadium at all venues. The cabling work is also being undertaken by MTNL, which is looking after broadcast and optical fibre network.
Added the official, ‘‘ The work will have to be carried out soon as the cabling is being undertaken as per schedule .’’ The request comes at a time when CPWD is already grappling to finish the 10 stadia under the agency in time for handover. National Stadium , ironically, is one of the few venues under CPWD that had been nearly following the original schedule. It had also held a test event in February earlier this year.
Meanwhile, officials in CPWD are livid about the late request. Said a senior official, ‘‘ At every venue, work seems incomplete as the complex is half dug up for cabling. CPWD has nothing to do with the ongoing cabling work,’’ claimed the official.
