More than 4,500 children enrolled under SSA in Kanchipuram

The children of immigrant labourers have vastly benefitted by this exercise, a press release from the District Collector said.

KANCHIPURAM: More than 4,500 children were enrolled in the Sarva Shikha Abhiyan scheme in Kanchipuram district during the last four years, official sources said here today.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is a flagship programme of the Centre for achievement of Universalization of Elementary Education in a time bound manner. It aims free and compulsory Education to the children of 6-14 years age group.

SSA is being implemented in partnership with state Governments.

The children of immigrant labourers have vastly benefitted by this exercise, a press release from the District Collector said.

The children studying in the special schools for them were provided with text books in their respective mother tongue and teachers who could teach them in their languages, the release said.
