More than 25,000 people have been displaced from their homes in various parts of West Bengal in a month following the assembly poll results on May 2, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said Tuesday.

People have fled to other districts, and some even outside the state. Some returned home but they were displaced again. They have been assaulted, beaten up and their children tortured. THeir crops were seized," Ghosh told the media after a closed-door working committee meeting of the party.

The BJP leader alleged 40 party members died in the post-poll violence and that his party has received more than 10,000 complaints of political violence.

“Police have taken the role of a mute spectator and did not even take complaints from our party workers. Administration also did not take any action. We have moved Calcutta High Court and the Court has accepted the fact and taken initiative for helping the displaced people,” he said.

All state office bearers, zonal observers, co-observers, youth wing, minority cell, kisan morcha, minority (SC, ST and OBC cell) units were part of the meeting to chalk out future agitation programmes.

Top BJP sources told ET that senior leaders expressed their concern about the bloody violence that unfolded in the state.

Party sourcs all said that post the electoral defeat the district presidents will retain their positions. A disciplinary action committee was formed to take action against party members who had "tarnished the image of the party".

Interestingly, BJP national vice-president Mukul Roy and turncoat BJP leader Rajib Banerjee did not attend the meeting, and were not reachable. In a recent Facebook post Banerjee had expressed unhappiness over BJP's aggressive opposition to the TMC-led government.
