PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry Chief Minister N.Rangasamy today said the monthly pension to freedom fighters would be raised from Rs 5000 to Rs 7000.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a government function here, Rangasamy said the increased pension to freedom fighters would be available from January next.

Rangasamy returned from Delhi yesterday after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and a few other Central Ministers.

The chief minister said he requested Modi to visit Puducherry to lay the foundation for the new complex of the Assembly and the Prime Minister has accepted the invitation.
