A cyclone formed over the Arabian Sea on Monday has dragged the moisture content northeast, bringing rain only in coastal Karnataka so far.
The monsoon reached Kerala on June 5 as against the usual date of June 1. It reached coastal Karnataka on June 6 and districts such as Mengaluru only on June 7.
"The depression in Arabian Sea and the cyclone that followed have delayed the monsoon since clouds near Karnataka coast were dragged towards Oman coast. Interior Karnataka has had only pre-monsoon showers, and it will take another eight days for the monsoon to cover entire Karnataka," GS Srinivas Reddy , Director of the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitor Centre, told ET.
Monsoon clouds will push into interior Karnataka after the coastal and hilly zones are saturated. MB Rajegowda, Professor of Agro-Meteorology and Registrar at the University of Agricultural Sciences, said light rain was expected in the city from June 12-13 till July third week. "By July 19, the city will get heavy rain till August 5. Till November second week, there will be moderate rain," he said.
