Monsoon reaches some parts of Gangetic West Bengal

KOLKATA: Monsoon reached some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, including the metropolis, today and is expected to cover some more parts of Odisha and remaining parts of northwest Bay of Bengal within next two days, the Met department said.

The Southwest Monsoon is likely to reach some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim by Wednesday, the weatherman said.

Rain or thundershower is likely at many places in Gangetic West Bengal with heavy rain at isolated places in some places, the Met department said.


No further advance of Monsoon is likely during next one week thereafter due to probable weakening of monsoon flow, the Met said.

The well-marked low pressure area over Tripura and neighbourhood lay as a low pressure area over the same region in the afternoon today.

Several places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is also expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall during the next two to three days along with the coastal districts of the state, the weatherman said in its forecast.

Port Canning in the coastal South 24 Parganas district recorded the highest rainfall of 44.6 mm in 24 hours till 8.30 am today.

The metropolis recorded 7.4 mm rainfall during the same period, the Met said.
