Monsoon likely in Maharashtra, Gujarat in next 48 hours; cyclone Nanauk to move away towards Oman
The monsoon is two days overdue in Mumbai — it should have reached on June 10 — and is still some distance away from the city.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said that conditions were becoming favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian sea Konkan during next 48 hours.
Scattered rains and thunderstorm, which commenced over south east Rajasthan, Vidarbha and south Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Marathwada on Tuesday, is expected to continue for next two days.
Also, under influence of the severe cyclonic storm ‘Nanauk’ over Arabian Sea, the south west monsoon will progress along the west coast of Maharashtra and Gujarat during next 48 hours.
However, it may cause temporary hiatus of 3-5 days over interior peninsula. The cyclone will not pose any threat to the Indian coast as it will keep moving away towards Oman and Gulf of Eden.
The monsoon is two days overdue in Mumbai — it should have reached on June 10 — and is still some distance away from the city.
“Monsoon has reached up to Ratnagiri — south of Mumbai. It will take 2-3 days to cover Konkan. The sky will mainly be cloudy with strong surface wind prevailing in city and suburbs,” said an IMD official in Mumbai. On Tuesday, the city recorded the maximum temperature of 38 degree Celsius in the last 10 years in June.
These activities are expected to result in a marginal drop in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C over North West and central India during next 24 hours.
On Wednesday, Satna in Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest temperature for the day at 48.4 degrees.
