Money not a motive behind Ghaisas murder: police

Police said that money does not seem to be a motive behind the brutal murder Vijay Ghaisas.

PUNE: Police on Tuesday said that money does not seem to be a motive behind the brutal murder of city cardiologist Vijay Ghaisas.

According to police, currency worth about Rs 5,000 was found near the body of the 68-year-old doctor when they arrived on the scene.

Judging by the marks on the body, police said Ghaisas might have resisted when his assailants attacked him. Preliminary investigation has shown that the murderers had not taken anything away from the two-storeyed house.

Ghaisas was found murdered at his bungalow in the posh Prabhat road locality in Deccan area of the city yesterday morning.

The assailants fled after forcing the maidservant, Vithabai, who had seen them, into the bathroom. After the assailants fled, the servant immediately alerted a neighbour doctor, who found Ghaisas lying dead in a pool of blood with several stab wounds, police said.

The doctor was alone in the house when the incident occurred as his wife, who is a writer, had gone to the US to stay with their daughter.
