Moga incident: Police stopped us from taking out candle light vigil

NEW DELHI: Delhi Congress today claimed it was stopped by police from taking out a candlelight vigil to pay homage to the victim of Moga molestation incident which led to a girl's death.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Maken, who was leading the march, said the women party workers wanted to pay homage to the girl through a march, but instead they were "lathi-charged" resulting in serious injury to 14 women, who were rushed to hospital for treatment.

"Political parties have every right to take out peaceful marches, which cannot be prevented by the police. What happened to the women Congress workers today was absolutely wrong and unjustified," Maken said.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president PS Bajwa and senior leaders from Delhi including Kiran Walia were also present.

Maken also condemned the "casual attitude" of the BJP-led Centre and AAP government in Delhi towards women's safety and security in the national capital.
